'Francis Meilland'
After some very warm and constantly windy weather, at times hot enough to drive me indoors after a few minutes outside--suddenly the roses seem to be telling me it was pruning time: leaf buds swelling rapidly.
So I snapped out of whatever funk I've been stuck in lately and got to it, including clean up of other plants as well. Hydrangeas Salvias and Cupheas got the chop. And old Gerbera, Alstroemeria, and Hellebore foliage to pull.... -

'Snowbird'
There are flowers out there--best to go get some pics. I've been gardening, just barely. We've had a week of Santa Ana winds blowing stuff around. It's uncomfortable gardening in winds blowing dust and leaves into your face. It's blowing pretty good... -

'Easy Does It'
Happy New Year? I'm hoping. In the meantime, the winter light this past Tuesday was marvelous--just enough of a thin cloud cover to bring out the richest colors without all the bleaching we get in summer.
So, just some photos, mostly Aloes, and a rose or two.... -

The rain we got in October and November made the xeric portions of the garden quite beautiful. 7 months of dust washed away, and new growth from everything. More flower stems on the Aloes than is usual.
Our Second Spring is Fall
I managed to get up on the front slope to inspect Aloe 'Eric The Red', which appeared to have an Aloe gall mite infestation. It did: an extensive one. I yanked 'Eric' out, along with the trash palm seedling that had sprouted next to it....
