Kodi Version Check still viable?

I have noticed this add-on installed by default and a person can only disable it. Running Kodi on Windows and Android TV and this add-on never seems to do anything.
Is it still viable and supported? Doesn't seem to be much posted about it.

big issue with Media Companion

I started using Media Companion about three years ago and it went fine then.
Now, after i upgraded my videos and then loaded them up in Media Companion nothing is working right.
