At this stage, my question is still theoretical.  I am using Nvidia Shields and they are not encumbered by scoped storage, but I know/worry that the 'future' is coming, and I may be forced to deal with scoped storage.
So I did my homework and followed the recommendations to just use path substitution and put userdata into a public accessible folder.  That worked.  Except that the skin was still looking for Database and Thumbnails in the old location and so I got nothing...

I’ve hidden episode thumbnails that might contain spoilers, so now “Recently Added Episodes” only shows the show artwork.
I like this setup, but I think it would be better to remove “Recently Added Episodes” completely, or at least move it in the main menu....
