There are many myths that surround the hobby of Koi keeping, this talk is to expose just one of them.
Nishikigoi first appeared purely by mistake and that’s a fact.

It continues to amaze me how the Japanese Koi breeders have managed to face all adversaries thrown at them over decades and still manage to come out of them all smelling of roses?
In the mid 1960’s when Japanese Koi clubs were first formed, the breeders were advised that male Koi and deformed Koi were not welcomed – and that Go-Sanke varieties should be more costlier that lesser varieties....

Introduction – The texts below have all been written by myself and are a true reflection of personal experiences I’ve had over many years.
I have stayed well away from assumptions, beliefs, tales heard from others and suchlike.
It may well raise eyebrows in some areas as my eyebrows were also raised at the times....

Not that this really matters to those who cover and/or add heat to their systems or those clever chaps in Japan who keep their stocks from October until early June in heated indoor houses.
Alas this heating thing does not apply to even 1% of those who keep Koi in the UK and most of their Koi started to die before Christmas 2014....
